The Gateway Project

From this (existing)…
This retaining wall along Sherwood Road has always been an eyesore. Besides being unsightly, the cement wall is unsafe, as children play around it and walk along the top. The wall is just inches from busy Sherwood Road and it is a sharp drop of about 10 feel to Fall Run Creek on the other side.

To this (proposed):
IMAGINE… On your daily walk or commute from your Bryn Mawr home to Ardmore Boulevard, you approach Bright Park and notice something that brings a smile to your face every time you pass.
Inspired by the possibility of transforming this cement wall into a beautiful row of planters, some of your neighbors have moved forward to make this project a reality:

• A local design consultant (who wishes to remain anonymous) donated his services.
• The borough’s Tree and Shrub Committee has budgeted for several tons of dirt to fill the planters.
• The Late Bloomers Garden Club will provide plantings.
• Area artists are creating panels on the front of the planters that spell out Bryn Mawr Farms in colorful mosaic letters.
• An independent contractor has been hired to construct and supervise installation of the planter boxes.

State Representative Jay Costa, Jr. (a Bryn Mawr resident) has been instrumental in helping the group obtain $7,000 in grants from the Steel Valley Authority and the Pa. Department of Community and Economic Development. In addition, Forest Hills Council has allocated $5,000 in matching funds. However, approximately $10,000 more is needed for materials and labor to complete the project. These funds must come from private sources.
